    whats folks relistic views?
firstly i appreciate most on here idolize the esco but iv wondered when the escort was out and everyone who grew up seeing it and with it etc most owners now back then would have been in the age bracket 10-50yrs old i presume and wanted one , now for talking sake those same owners or fanatics would be now 30-70yrs old now that the esco is 20yrs old and yea the car has kept its value as new was around 25k
i know alot of folk buy these for investment but do owners really think folk will pay 35-50k for one in 10-20 yrs my point being in another 20yrs you guys will be 50plus i imagine and the new generation will be wanting there icon cars like rs focuses subarus audis bmw etc
my point is you owners now will be older the new generation wont want one or care and not everyone will have a spare 40-50 k to buy an escort unless there diehards so are you not better using it and enjoying it, as i think the novelty of storing them and hoping to cash in might bite you back one day
my opinion guys whats yours? are they really that good an investment?

I understand what your saying but the same could be said about the lotus cortinas of the 60s and the escorts of the 70s.
Had a mate with a lotus cortina mk1 who paid £5k in the early 90s.
      Its worth about £35k now!

I want to be thinking it was great because it took me to new places and broadened my horizons and led me to make new friends. Oh, and it got my heart racing too

Like Dave mine isn't for investment, I bought one cause I love them, I use mine and enjoy mine whenever I can
The prices these cars are heading is just ludacris IMO and tbh they just aren't worth it

IMO its a case of couldn't afford a good example years ago and now that we/I are a bit older and are in a better state financially we can afford to buy our dream car and cherish it ,yes there is an element of investment ie don't want to lose money but as an investment I'm better with buy to let flats!!!Most people IMO buy these to enjoy polish and take to shows meet like minded folk and enjoy the whole experience.that said some of the prices I feel are getting a bit silly and will have an effect on enthusiasts buying a car like the escos as it will end up out their grasp.i think the escos is in a different bracket than a lot of cars because of nostalgia styling and undoubtedly the engine.these cars have a special place in people's hearts and very few cars can still command the neck breaking glances these iconic cars achieve.are they worth the premium....... ....... I think many will answer YES

I bought mine as a toy to enjoy. Personally the whole issue of Escort Cos prices rises really annoys me. They're now starting to be bought by "collectors" who have plenty of cash and are causing the values to rise. I doubt most of them are actually true RS fans nor will they use the cars

Well going by what you have quite rightly said there I am now 30 and have my iconic escort cosworth as I once dreamed of one when I was young, however this is where your trying to make logical reasoning fails because you refer to the up an coming generation buying there iconic cars in 20 years time but what you fail to acknowledge is the 30 year old in 20 years if my Maths serve me is now 50!

That is very close to retirement age and possibly through there working life could not afford a cosworth or justify one with young families and busy lives! So Mr joe Bloggs for example divorces his wife? Kids grow up and leave home? Pension matures? Downsizes family home to a bungalow?what ever the scenario mr Bloggs decides to have a new lease of life at 50 and fantasises of an escos that by this time has become even rarer and pricier but like most 45 yr old classics is an itch he has to scratch to re-live his once found youth!

So unfortunately the reasoning you have presented is no more sound than my take or any other for that matter because if you want a car that you have desired for 20 or 40 years and you have the cash to buy it knowing you can own it and sell it on one day for the same if not more, then you probably will because life for many ppl is experiencing dreams and fantasies to accomplish life as you only have 1 go at it.

That's why my wife dresses up as cat woman when I'm a good lad!

Couldn't of put it better myself Jules

I've made some fantastic friends through Escos ownership and I've been all over the country in it and enjoyed every minute

I bought one as I wanted one, never an investment for me.

I'm not allowed to sell mine. My girls have already decided who's getting what....my eldest is having the Escort and the youngest is having the MG

Bought mine to drive. If resale increases as well, that's brilliant.

I don't think these are age limited cars. I've had a young bloke barely out of school, come up to me at the track, eyes agog and excited to see one in real life. Apparenly the vitual escos is all the rage in the games young kids play on playstation & xbox.
                            Cheers

I am surprised sometimes when the younger lads recognise the 'escort cossie' in the street when I'm driving round in mine.
