Not sure where this thread is going to be honest all i know is sparkyp has mention twice now that he can easily hand over 30K for a overpriced car

      I quote
"lol i could buy a 30k overpriced one tommorow, its the principle"
      And
" to me there is no way i would hand over 25-40k which i could easily today or tommorow"

Is this about someone showing off or trying to.

So what if you have 30k to spend

Registrars give valuations for either escos 500's or anything else and insurance companies agree to that price so if the worst happens you're covered at that price, these cars exchange hands at decent money if you're not willing to pay it then don't bother but begrudging the prices of an old escort compared to an old Subaru will only eat you up inside matey suck it up and crack on

If you look at for sale section there is a ash black one for sale spent excess of £7000 on it getting it to where he wants it.point in case is I don't think that guy or many others that have lavished thousands on their cars see it as an investment they do it as a- can afford it b- want to make it their own and c- more often than not enjoy doing the jobs or seeing the end result.yes prices are a bit crazy and some folk will pay over the odds for the cars but if you look around only a select few are upwards of £25grand.only the market place will decide what these cars are worth and if I found the right car/colour / mileage etc I would pay what I feel it was worth to me.like many have said I think your on the wrong forum and I doubt you are in any way genuinely looking for a escos..investment wise as already said there is many ways to invest your money to see a better return .that said there are guys that will buy it sit on it for few years and try get a good return on their investment but I still feel they must have an interest in these cars and must be able to keep them in top condition to achieve full potential.either way I would rather have a escos to look at polish and enjoy than £20k in bank .
We might be sad pathetic or even f@&£in stupid but I for one can't wait to see one in my garage and will continue to use and enjoy this forum .

I didn't buy mine (or any of mine) as an investment although obviously it's nice that there is that element to it. In fact I lost a shed load of money on the others because of modifying them so much with all new bits.

I've always loved them, it was the car I always wanted to be honest. When the Escort RS Turbo came out that was the car I wanted, and I got one (in fact several) in time. And then when the Escort Cossie came out there was nothing like it, and there still isn't. It's not the fastest, best handling car now because it's old, but it's just go so much more about it than most of the blandmobiles now, and you can bet every time you go out in one and stop someone will come and want to chat about it.

Mine's been off the road for quite a long time now because I haven't really had the time to use it, but I've decided my life isn't going to be all work and no play now so I'm currently doing a resto on it, and when it's done it'll be back on the road! Although it'll still probably only ever be a weekend and show day car but that's fine by me because I've got a good daily driver too.
              Cheers
              Trev.

What's the harm in asking a few questions

Nothing wrong with constructive questions that require informative advice People don't like being told how to own/ run/ care for their cars though. I take everything with a pinch of salt. We all have our reasons for owning these epic cars, whether it be for love or investment etc etc. The price is the price for a reason, otherwise it wouldn't be so. There are much "better" cars out there , but they are ten a penny. Rare = Expensive just like every other commodity. FTMFW

I "invested" £13,500 in mine to buy.

It's appreciated to the sum of £7000 if I'm lucky.

                            I ruined it.....

i cant remember telling anyone what to do with there cars, i do like these cars and my post stated what do folk that store these away and not drive them expect to recieve for them in a few years, as i think some owners believe to recieve in excess of 35k plus easily
personally i think for a mk 5 escort, cosworth or not the price some folk value these at is hysterical and personally i think just greedy to cash in, some will agree some will believe they will fetch 50k plus one day, my point was what happens when the generation that grew up with these decide to sell and the new gen of young folk dont give a shit about an escort cossie, and dont have the money you expect to sell these for, your stuck with an overpriced car you cant sell or struggle to sell cause you have over valued it
my other point was i could and can buy one of these as i have cash avaliable but my point was i was not willing to line an owners pockets with 20-40k for one when to me its worth no more than 15-22k max as to me under the bodywork its a mk 5 escort and just look at the interior plus the owner prob paid thousands less for it
i knew most owners would disagree as one baahs and the sheep follow i am entitled to an opinion like you, and my qusetion was truthully what do owners genuinly value these at and expect to recieve for them one day, cheers
